During use, you can clean the filter core of the water purifier to remove dirt, helping to ensure the effectiveness of the water filtration process.
How many filter cores does a water purifier have?
In fact, a water purifier does not only have one filter core but always has many different filter cores with different tasks. You will see some machines with only 3-5 filter cores, but there are also machines with more than 8 filter cores.
For normal household water filtration needs, you can choose a 3-5 core machine. If there is a need to drink water directly from the filter, the family can choose the 5-7 core type. To add more minerals and balance the pH of the water, you can choose a filter with 8 or more filter cores. However, the more learning cores, the higher the price of the device and the higher the cost of periodically replacing cores.
Each water purifier will have many filter cores with different tasks.
Normally, filter core number 1 is a core made from PP - Polypropylene cotton fibers that retains mud, moss, and heavy metals larger than 5 microns in size.
Filter core number 2 is an activated carbon core that absorbs heavy metals, detergents, chemicals, reduces insoluble lead in water, removes chlorine odors and some types of bacteria.
Filter element number 3 has the same effect as filter element 2 but has the ability to filter cleaner, absorbing slime and unpleasant odors in water.
Filter element No. 4 (RO filter membrane) is made from synthetic polyamide fibers with the function of filtering dirt, solids, heavy metal ions, bacteria... of extremely small size in water.
From error number 5 onwards, the cores add minerals to the water, balancing the pH of the water.
When cleaning the machine, you can wash the coarse filter cores, RO cores, and mineral supply cores then do not need to be cleaned and just need to be replaced periodically according to the manufacturer's instructions.
How to clean the coarse filter core
When cleaning the water purifier, you need to disconnect the power source and close the water supply valve to ensure safety.
Remove the coarse filter cores and remove the inner core (each core will have an outer cover). Place the filter core in the bucket/basin.
Pour water into one end of the filter element to rinse. Use a clean brush to gently scrub to remove surrounding dirt. Rinse the filter core with clean water to remove all residue and drain.
After a period of use, the water filter cores will accumulate a lot of dirt. You can clean the filter core or replace it if the core has been used for a long time.
How to clean activated carbon filter core
With the activated carbon filter core, you can take the filter core out of the machine and soak it in diluted salt water for about 1-2 hours. Then, rinse with clean water to wash away dirt on the filter core.
Let the filter core drain, then reinstall the machine and try operating the machine.
How to clean RO core
Remove the RO filter core from the machine and use a towel to gently wipe around the core, using clean water to wash. Because the RO core has a complex structure, do not scrub vigorously.
Let the filter element dry and reinstall it in its original position.
When to replace the filter core of a water purifier?
With the coarse filter core and activated carbon filter core, you can replace it after 12 months of use. RO filter cores can be replaced after 24-36 months of use. The following filter elements can be replaced after 24 months.
Frequency of replacing filter cores depends on usage conditions and water quality. You can refer to the manufacturer's instructions for use to know the appropriate time to replace the water filter core, helping to ensure the quality of your family's water source.
Cleaning the filter core during use is only part of maintaining the device's water filtration efficiency. You still need to periodically replace the filter core.
When you see the filter core is black, gray, brown... it means the filter core has been operating for a long time and is starting to become saturated with dirt, so it is best to replace it.
In addition, if you see the water running slowly or the water has a strange taste... you should also check the filter core and replace it. These are signs that the filter core is no longer working effectively.
