The RTX 4090D is a special version of the existing model with a reduced core count and TDP to comply with US restrictions on high-performance chip exports to China. In fact, the 4090D model has a GPU with 14,592 CUDA cores, 11% less than the original model. TDP has been reduced by 25W to 425W. However, recently, ASUS unlocked 600W OC for GeForce RTX 4090D ROG STRIX, surpassing RTX 4090, let's learn about it with Phuc Anh.
GeForce RTX 4090D ROG STRIX will reach up to 600W
Technically, all RTX 4090D graphics cards have NVIDIA reference specs, which means no factory overclocking is allowed and there is no dual BIOS feature with higher clocks (however it does fan can be adjusted). Unofficially, overclocking a GPU to anything BIOS unlocked is relatively easy. In this case, this unlock reaches the power limit of over 500W.
Initially, any overclocking of the RTX 4090D shows negligible gains, performance ranges from 2 to 5%, but this is due to the low power limit increase options.
However, ASUS went a step further and introduced a 600W setting for the ROG STRIX model, which is physically identical to the original but comes with a new AD102-250 GPU with fewer cores. HKEPC, who tested the GPU, found that ASUS offers huge overclocking potential, which can be manually adjusted through software such as GPU Tweak, ASUS GPU information and overclocking tools.
This reviewer was able to set the GPU to 600W mode (41% higher power limit) and increase the clock speed by 200 MHz. The memory has been overclocked from 1313 MHz to 1500 MHz (effectively 24 Gbps). Overall, the observed performance in 3DMark Speed Way increased from 9846 to 10818 points, an increase of nearly 10%. This allows the GPU to surpass the original RTX 4090.
Overclocking the RTX 4090D beyond the original model is not possible with most D variants on the market. This is mainly due to energy limitations. However, ASUS ROG STRIX is an exception
