Son helped Tottenham crush Aston Villa
Heung-min scored one goal and contributed two assists, helping Tottenham win 4-0 at fourth team Aston Villa in round 28 of the Premier League.
The match at Villa Park has a big impact on the race to win the final ticket to the Champions League. Therefore, the two teams ranked fourth and fifth played closely in the first half and did not hit the goal once.
The turning point came at the beginning of the second half when James Maddison opened the scoring, before Son shined with a goal and two assists to help Tottenham win big. Three points helped Ange Postecoglu's students shorten the gap with Aston Villa to two points, while still playing one match less.
Tottenham's attack was harmless in the first half, but soon exploded at the beginning of the second half. In a quick counterattack, Pape Sarr passed from the right wing for Maddison to tap in to open the score. Just three minutes later, the gap was doubled for Tottenham. Dejan Kulusevski stole the ball in Aston Villa's half, creating conditions for Son to assist Brennan Johnson to score in the face-off with Emiliano Martinez.
Aston Villa players could not keep calm after losing two consecutive goals to their direct competitors. The host also lost someone in the 65th minute, after captain John McGinn was sent off for a rough tackle on defender Destiny Udogie.
In a position of lacking players, Aston Villa still pushed the team up, creating conditions for Tottenham to have many counterattacks. Kulusevski missed many opportunities but also left his mark in the first minute of stoppage time, with a favorable rebound for Son to kick right into the goal and hit the home goal.
After the Aston Villa captain was kicked out, the Tottenham captain shone brightly. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Son scored the away team's goals for the third time.
The Korean international dribbled the ball quickly on the left wing and then passed it in for Timo Werner to make a one-touch connection, sealing the 4-0 victory.
Aston Villa lost but still maintained fourth place. However, the team with the most advantage in the Top 4 race right now is Tottenham, as they have one match left and are only two points behind Aston Villa. Postecoglu and his team also restored the six-point gap with sixth-place team Man Utd.
